About me

My name is David Paul Hammer. I’m a white male, 48 (at the time of this posting, my date of birth is October 9, 1958) years old. I was born and raised in the State of Oklahoma. I’ve been continuously incarcerated since January 18, 1978 with the exception of two brief periods spent on escape status in 1981 and 1983. Since coming to prison I’ve obtained my GED (1979) and degrees in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Paralegal Studies and Communications. ALL of my college education was at my own expense, not one tax payer dime was spent on this. I have many interests, some of them include reading, writing, listening to music, watching football and news programs on TV. I spend a lot of time doing volunteer legal work for my fellow inmates and others on the outside. I’m involved in several social justice issues including the abolition of the death penalty. I do some painting and drawing with the proceeds from their sales going to maintain the website (Death Row Speaks) and other causes. I help create a set of annual Holiday Cards with the Proceeds (minus marketing and production costs) going to help abused children and those at risk.

David Hammer

I have written and co-written two books which were published in 2004. I’m currently in the process of writing a third book which I hope to complete this year. I spend my time wisely and hope to give back to society even if only in a limited way.

I am guilty of having killed my cell mate, but I’m not guilty of First degree, premeditated murder for which I was sentenced to death. (my death sentence was vacated on December 27th, 2005, but that decision is currently being appealed by the government).

I’m always open to the possibility of corresponding with anyone who is serious about such communications. So go ahead, write to me and I’ll respond promptly.
